Gift of Khoo Soo Beow

This white-ground dish features a pair of phoenix and peony motifs, and is decorated with a border of the eight Buddhist symbols—the wheel of law, jar, conch shell, umbrella, canopy, lotus, fish, and eternity knot. This high quality porcelain ware bears the owner’s mark of Khoo Joo Bee, and was commissioned either for wedding or birthday. The base of the ware sometimes bears a reign mark of a Chinese Emperor, the family name or the shop mark.
