Haw Par Villa exhibit showing the Nai Hoe Bridge

Chinese legend has it that the soul of the dead will reach the Nai Hoe Bridge, where he will be judged on the deeds in his life. Those who have sinned will be banished to the river beneath, while those who have not will be allowed across the bridge. Sculptures such as the Nai Hoe Bridge that depict themes from Chinese folklore are displayed throughout Haw Par Villa, which was built by Aw Boon Haw to educate the public about Chinese culture. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, the theme park was built in 1937 along Pasir Panjang Road.
