The metallic beads used on this spectacle case are known as 'manek perigu', and are generally associated with earlier instances of beadwork. The accompanying pair of spectacles suggests its function. Many Nonyas enjoyed beadworking and practised the craft beyond the obligations to make their wedding trousseau. They busied themselves with making a lively range of personal objects and household items for their daily use.
