This ornament is made of beaten gold, and although it is unclear what it was used for, the presence of the suspension loops indicates that it was meant to be hung from a cord or chain. Hence it could possibly be a cord-end cover used to weigh the waist cords. Since the ornament is hollow, some sort of pompon or cloth could have been inserted into it. Besides personal adornments, gold was also used as money and to fashion religious items.
