This silk skirt cloth known as 'pha nung' comprises two similar bands of cloths stitched together to form a long cloth that is wound round the body and pulled up through the legs. It has weft ikat designs of stripes and diamonds in indigo, green, white, light blue and yellow against a red ground. Garments of this type were used by both men and women, often in combination with a European style shirt and coat. It was popular for formal or festive occasions.
