This stand is used to store the 'songkok' (cap) and to help it keep its shape when not worn. The top of the stand is covered with a white crocheted songkok. The bottom half has a small compartment perhaps used to store prayer beads. In Southeast Asia, some pilgrims would wear a white cap or songkok haji and adopt the title ‘haji’ to indicate that they have performed the pilgrimage to Mecca or the 'haj'. The haj is a religious obligation that is expected of Muslims who can afford it. This pilgrimage is performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar.
