This long shoulder cloth or 'phaa biang' was made by the Tai Neua people of northern Laos. Lao Neua textiles are known for intricate, symbolic designs in supplementary weft (sometimes called ‘weft brocade’) using raw home-grown silk, cotton and natural dyes. Typical motifs include diamond or lozenge-shaped motifs, short scroll shapes and abstract anthropomorphic and animal forms.
