This piece of silk textile of crimson, red ground and gold threads is woven in the weft ikat method. It consists of the repeating motif, 'sawat', the Garuda represented by a pair of wings and a tail set within a decorative rhombus. Across the centrefield of the cloth this design is repeated and seemed to go on beyond the borders. This is a feature often found in Malay, Jambi and Javanese batiks and is seen as an expression of the Islamic concept of the infinite.
