Kiosks at Haw Par Villa

Kiosks and pavilions, such as the one depicted here, are a permanent fixture at Haw Par Villa. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, Haw Par Villa was built in 1937 by Aw Boon Haw, who wanted to establish an entertainment and educational park that displayed statues and tableaux featuring anecdotes from Chinese legends and folklore. A prominent businessman and philanthropist, Aw’s name became synonymous with Tiger Balm, the renowned analgesic product that he and his younger brother, Aw Boon Par, successfully marketed in the Southeast Asian region.
