Calligraphic page written in nastaliq script

The main text on this page is written in elegant nasta‘liq done diagonally. The signature of the calligrapher, Muhammad Husayn al-Kashmiri (d.1611), is found in the small triangular section. He was a great calligrapher working in the court atelier in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The Mughal emperor Akbar honoured him with the title, Zarin Qalam or ‘Golden Pen’. If you look carefully, you can find tiny paintings of birds scattered within the text area, which were probably the work of a court painter.
