Kebayas are commonly made from voile, a fine cotton fabric of French or Swiss origins. The decorative motifs could be then embroidered onto the fabric using lacework executed in silk threads. This piece is made up of red and grey floral motifs. The design seemingly marks the cusp of time, showing the transition from the long baju panjang to the short kebaya before the shape of the kebaya was fully established.
