The postcard depicts an aerial view of the Singapore River. In the middle of the picture are the government offices at Empress Place along with the Victoria Theatre and Memorial Hall with its clock tower. Presented by the Straits Trading Company, the clock was installed in 1906. The Singapore Cricket Club and the Padang are shown in the background. Cavenagh Bridge, on the right, was built by convict labourers under the direction of P.W. Maclellen of Glasgow in 1869. It was erected to link the government offices in Empress Place with Commercial Square, known as Raffles Place today.
