The traditional Chinese costume worn by the three-year-old girl is reserved for special occasions such as the New Year or a Straits Chinese wedding ceremony. Along with the costume that consists of several layers, the girl is wearing an elaborate headdress which is a complicated network of silver filigree ornaments including phoenixes, peacocks and other Buddhist and Taoist symbols of good luck.
