Cavenagh Bridge was named after Sir Lieutenant General William Orfeur Cavenagh, the last Governor of the Straits Settlements (1859-1867) under British India control. Built in 1868, it is the oldest bridge across the Singapore River in the present. It was also the last major work carried out by the Indian convicts in Singapore. Today Cavenagh Bridge serves as a foot-bridge for pedestrian traffic only.
