Children posing with an antique car

This photograph belongs to a series of casual shots depicting children. With the improvements made to roll-film during the first half of the 20th century, more user-friendly cameras were produced. Photography became less technical and non-restrictive. The photographer was free to choose any viewpoint, angle and subject matter. Children, as depicted here, were seldom photographed in the past. On top of that, places and other objects in photographs may give hints to the background and status of the subject matter. The car suggests that these children might have come from affluent families as automobiles were still uncommon in many households at that time.
