Fairy Point Mess at RAF Changi airfield

Fairy Point Mess was a clubhouse opened around early 1950 for the exclusive use of Royal Air Force (RAF) officers. Designed by architects Palmer and Turner, the building was erected at a cost of $123,000. Located on Fairy Point Hill near the RAF Changi airfield, the clubhouse had a wide array of facilities for its exclusive membership, including a lounge, ballroom, cocktail bar, swimming pool and dressing rooms. After the RAF withdrew from the airfield in 1971, the base was taken over by the Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC), precursor to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), for use in training pilots. The airfield was subsequently redeveloped for civilian use with the opening of the first phase of the Changi International Airport in 1981.
