This ring belonged to a set of jewellery consisting of silver hairpins, brooches and rings studded with pearls as well as green and blue gems. Mourning jewellery is worn during the mourning period of three years as a show of respect for the loss of loved one. During this time, the usual gold and diamond ornaments are exchanged for more sombre jewellery such as this.
