This comb comes from the Dayak people in Borneo. The central metalpiece is decorated with foliage motifs and carries ornaments that would tremble with the wearer's movements. Metal jewellery was part of the Dayak ritual costumes made of elaborately woven textiles. It has been suggested that metalworking among the Dayak is linked to masculinity, whereas textiles, other than those with beadwork and barkcloth, are associated with feminity.
