This block printed edition was produced in the 9th year of the Yongzheng reign (1723-1735). It is a script for the story, Romance of the Western Chambers. There are 23 illustrations in the book. The drama was written by Wang Shifu in the early 14th century, who excelled at writing love stories. Highly regarded in his time, today, the drama is still well received on stage. Dozens of notated and commentated copies of this drama were published during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). The late Ming to early Qing period is the peak of the art of woodblock printings in China. Such a block printed edition is very rare. There is an inscription by Kangsheng, a famous Chinese politician, in 1954 and a seal by him.
