This is a type of decorative fabric belt made from velvet. The decorative motifs include birds, animals, fruits and flowers. These are stitched onto the fabric using colourful glass seed beads or “Rocaille beads”. Such cloth belts were used by Peranakan women to secure their sarongs. More ornate belts like this were reserved for special occasions like weddings.
