This small votive tablet features images of the Buddha surrounded by bodhisattvas, and it was made from soft clay pressed with a stamp. Votive tablets have been a tradition in Buddhism since its earliest days. Buddhist monks made these tablets in order to create merit for themselves. These amulets were believed to bring good fortune and protection to their wearers. Votive tablets are said to derive their power to protect the wearer through their association with sacred things. They endow the wearer with a sense of well-being and a desire to behave well towards others.
