This series of stamps commemorates the 2004 Athens Olympiad.The motto of the Games was ‘Welcome Home’ as Greece held its first Olympics in 1896. Greece’s importance in the Olympiad could be traced back to the times of the Ancient Olympic Games. Athletes from kingdoms in Ancient Greece and other city-states competed in sports such as athletics, combat and chariot racing.
