Pulling in the boats Kelantan Malaysia

Born in 1938, Koeh Sia Yong graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore in 1958. He was a key member of the defunct Equator Society, the largest art collective in Singapore from the 1960s to 1970s whose members believed in the promotion of social equality and were influenced by the prevailing social and political thinking in Singapore’s Chinese community of the 1950s. Executed in a naturalistic, expressive style, ‘Pulling in the Boats Kelantan Malaysia’ is an emotive work of fishermen struggling to bring their boats to shore as a storm approaches. The devotion of a large part of the canvas to the rolling dark clouds further heightens the sense of drama.
