This ivory basket bearing the initials "HH" on the cover was made as a present for a woman named Harriet Hanson, on the occasion of her marriage in 1823. It was a gift from her sister Elisabeth Hanson, who was married to Sir James Brabazon Urmston of Chigwell House, Essex. Lord Urmston was president of the Honourable East India Company’s Affairs in China.The basket is profusely decorated with openwork carving depictions of Chinese figures in landscapes. A fruit with twigs and leaves serves as the handle for the cover.
