Portrait of Dr Tan Tsze Chor

Dr. Tan Tsze Chor (1911–1983) was a successful businessman and renowned Chinese art collector who established one of the earliest and largest collections of Chinese art in Singapore – the Xiang Xue Zhuang Collection. This portrait expresses his scholarly aspirations, with traditional Chinese scholar motifs of pine, rock and plum blossoms. It was published in Dr Tan’s 1979 collection of his own calligraphy. Over 150 objects from Dr Tan’s Xiang Xue Zhuang collection have been donated to ACM by the Tan family since 2000.
