This batik sash contains the recurring motif of flowers, perhaps orchids, combined with rounded cruciform rendered together with small dotted leaves and diamond shapes. Made in the latter half of the twentieth century, the vibrant teal and deep red could indicate that this was produced with chemical dyes. Artificial dyes came to be adopted by Indonesian batik makers for their convenience and ease of use.
