This is a sheet of gold leaf stamped with Chinese characters, English words, and Jawi script. Though the words are difficult to decipher, it suggests that this was a commodity traded through Southeast Asia and would have been used as gilding on furniture or silver jewellery. This item is part of a group donation from descendants of Tan Kim Seng and Tan Jiak Kim. Both were wealthy merchants, philanthropists and leaders of the local Hokkien community.
