These fourteen assorted beaded pins with figurines and floral arrangements were made for use on the altar vessel known as a chanab. This vessel would be used to serve offerings to the deities. They were used by the maternal great-grandmother of the collector, Mrs Tan Yan Goan, suggesting that these beaded pins were made in the late 19th century. This is an important and diverse collection of Peranakan Chinese beadwork and embroidery from Indonesia. It contains unusual forms of beadwork and embroidery and are reflective of the fondness that Peranakan Chinese throughout Southeast Asia have for bright colours and ornate decorations.
