The olive-coloured body of this jasper snuff bottle is carved with an ochre monkey holding a peach. This image probably alludes to an episode in the Chinese classic, Journey to the West, where the Monkey King steals a peach of immortality from the orchard of the Queen Mother of the West. These special peaches were thought to endow one with eternal youth and longevity.
