"Save Now. Save Wisely" was the 1987 slogan for the National School Savings Campaign. This POSB bookmark was part of a nationwide campaign introduced in 1969 to promote the virtue of thriftiness among students, as well as to encourage them to save. Known for its habit of storing food for rainy days, the squirrel was chosen as the mascot for the campaign with the aim of inspiring students to save. The squirrel appeared on several of the publicity materials and activities associated with the campaign, including bookmarks, posters, the cover of the POSB account book for children, as well as educational shows.
