'Trengganu Street, Singapore'

This oil painting by Hugo Vilfred Pedersen shows Trengganu Street in Singapore, a street named after the Malaysian state of Trengganu. It links Pagoda Street, Temple Street, Smith Street and Sago Street in Chinatown. Popular attractions in Trengganu Street amongst Chinese immigrants in the 19th century included the Lai Chun Yuen opera house, brothels, gambling dens and hawker food. Chinese hawkers are depicted in the foreground of this painting.
