This ‘kain panjang’ features an extremely dense floral motif and background known as ‘buketan Semarangan’, combined with the ‘pagi-sore’(morning-afternoon) design and the bright moon motif. It is characteristic of a type of batik produced during the Japanese Occupation in Indonesia known as batik Hokokai. Batik Hokokai were made in the workshops owned by Indo-Europeans, Indo-Arabs as well as Peranakans who were hired by the Japanese Occupation authorities to produce them because of fine quality of work.
