The Peranakan Chinese use two types of porcelain spoons mainly for soups and desserts. The spoons are richly decorated in colourful enamels with floral and bird motifs, particularly the phoenix and the peony. Dessert spoons like this example are used with dessert bowls in the serving of Peranakan desserts such as 'chendol', 'tai bak' and 'biji delima'.
