Toa Payoh Town Park houses a 25-metre-tall Look-Out Tower conserved by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Completed in the 1970s, the popularity of this park led HDB to set aside sizeable plots of land for parks in each public housing town that followed.

Designed by the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and completed in the 1970s, Toa Payoh Town Park was the forerunner of green spaces that have since become essential elements of Singapore’s public housing towns. Originally known as Toa Payoh Town Garden before being renamed Toa Payoh Town Park in 2002, the park spans 4.8 hectares of plant and tree life, landscaped ponds, rustic gazebos and various amenities.

Toa Payoh Town Park, with its iconic Look-Out Tower, was a popular destination for wedding photographs in the 1970s and 1980s, and till today, holds a special place in the memories of residents who continue to use the park’s amenities for various recreational activities.

A portion of the park has been designated as a conservation area by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Look-Out Tower was accorded conservation status in 2009. Back then, the Look-Out Tower offered panoramic views of Singapore from a height of 25 metres and was a key attraction within the park.

The park’s popularity with visitors led HDB to set aside sizeable plots of lands within each new public housing estate to better serve residents and the wider community. In 1997, the park was refurbished and new interlocking tile footpaths as well as a seating terrace were added.

Today, Toa Payoh Town Park retains its charm and continues to be a well-loved recreational space for individuals as well as families to gather.
